Janmashtami 2022 is almost here! This year Janmashtami will be celebrated on his 19th August 2022. This auspicious Hindu festival celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, also known as Krishna His Janmashtami or Gokurashtami. Traditionally, many devotees celebrate this special occasion by performing fasts in honor of Lord Krishna and reenacting the life of the deity. Like most Indian festivals, even Janmashtami involves the preparation and enjoyment of a delicious variety of mithais. Lord Krishna loves sweets, so it’s no surprise he enjoys a delicious mithai on his birthday! Today I found Janmashtami’s special mitai, Mewa his pug recipe.
Unlike most Mitai, no flour is used to make this sweet. Mewapag is only dried fruits and nuts! This special mithai combines almonds, cashews, edible gums, kishmish, coconut and more. Food blogger Parul Gupta has uploaded a recipe video for mewa paag on his YouTube channel ‘Cook With Parul’.With a few simple steps, you can make this Janmashtami special mithai at home.

Janmashtami 2022: How to make Mewa Paag
Start by frying the dried fruits separately. Almonds, cashews, edible gums and foxnuts are fried in ghee. Coarsely grind the fried dried fruit in separate batches. Stir watermelon seeds, dried coconut, poppy seeds and kishmish in the remaining ghee. Remove from heat and let cool. Add crushed dried fruit and mix well. Meanwhile, dissolve sugar in water to make sugar syrup. Pour the sugar into the coconut mixture and cook for 2-3 minutes. Spread the stiff mixture on a plate and let it set. Mewa Paag is ready! Just cut them into squares and serve.
