The Toronto Maple Leafs may not have finished adding to their roster before this year’s trade deadline.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported this weekend that he believes Toronto (and Ottawa senators) are on the market for defensemen.

Friedman shared on Saturday 32 Thoughts Canadian Hockey Night segment Here’s what he’s been asking about what Toronto wants to add to their roster.

“I think the Maple Leafs have committed themselves to looking to the market more than ever to see what the market is doing as a defense,” Friedman said. “We have TJ Brody who is flexible and can play either side, so I don’t think handedness is necessarily a big issue. increase.”

Toronto is currently dealing with the loss of Jake Mazin, who has only played four games this season.

Last week, Toronto made perhaps its biggest deal in years, acquiring veteran center Ryan O’Reilly and forward Noel Acciari from the St. Louis Blues for a string of draft picks and AHL prospect Adam Gaudet. and acquired Mikhail Abramov.

“I feel like some teams looking for defense think they have an oversupply in the market or they think there’s a surplus in the market right now,” Friedman added. “And they feel that some of these sellers might feel a little cramped, and that’s what they want.”

The NHL trade deadline is set for Friday, March 3 at 3:00 PM ET.
