The U.S. is lifting a long-standing requirement that foreign travelers be vaccinated against COVID-19.

according to U.S. Department of Homeland Securitythe requirement will be deprecated next week.

“Beginning May 12, 2023, DHS will require non-U.S. travelers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 when entering the U.S. through land ports of entry and ferry terminals, We will no longer require you to provide the relevant vaccination certificate.”

This means that unvaccinated people living in border towns across Canada will be able to re-enter the United States by land.

According to Reuters, US lawmakers voted earlier this year to remove the requirement that most air travelers be vaccinated.

The U.S. government introduced mandatory COVID-19 vaccines in September 2021 and required visitors to have at least two doses of the vaccine in January 2022.

Last June, the United States abolished the COVID testing requirement for air travelers.

Canada last year lifted a mandatory vaccination requirement for travelers and recently lifted a temporary measure requiring people arriving to Canada from China to provide a negative COVID-19 test.
