DC’s Black Superman Movie Would Be an Elseworlds Project

Despite James Gunn making his own Superman movie in a complete transformation of the DC Universe DC black superman movie. Still under construction. However, it will not be included in the mainline DC Universe.

talk io9, filmmaker and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn was asked about a Black Superman movie. The project is said to have come from writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and producer JJ Abrams. However, according to Gunn, the project has absolutely nothing to do with his upcoming Superman: Legacy. He says the movie could still happen as an Elseworlds project, depending on what the script looks like.

“These two things are totally unrelated,” says Gunn. “This is an exciting movie. I know Chantal Nong, the executive of that project, is very excited. So if it comes and it’s great, I’ll read the script No. If the timing is right, it could absolutely happen.

What is DC’s Elseworlds?

For those who don’t know, Elseworlds was an imprint of a DC Comics publication that focused on stories that happened outside of the main continuity. This allowed for more creative storytelling and led to some of DC’s biggest and best-known stories to date, such as 1996’s beloved Kingdom Come.

When Gunn and Peter Safran took over as DC Studios heads and announced their film list in January, the two said any film that didn’t fit into the shared DC universe would be classified as an “Elseworlds” project. These include The Joker and its follow-up Forre-a-Dou, as well as Batman and its future sequel.

Reported by hollywood reporter said they are aiming to see Black Superman appear in films outside of the DC Extended Universe. In fact, Coates is said to have been inspired by the original comic. Coates’ protagonist will be “from Krypton and coming to Earth,” and could be “a 20th-century piece.” DC previously had a black Superman named Calvin Ellis, but it’s unclear if that name will be used here.

One actor that has come to mind for fans is Creed star Michael B. Jordan. In fact, Black’s Superman movie was an idea Jordan tried to pitch to the studio in his 2019, but it never materialized. It’s currently in production, so it’s possible Jordan could star in the next blockbuster. when talking to an ET Earlier this year, the actor revealed that he had heard nothing of the kind so far.

“I am honored to be invited to the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot,” Coates said when the upcoming film was first announced. “We look forward to making meaningful additions to the legacy of one of America’s most iconic mythical heroes.”
